Children's Playground Ideas to Become a Reality in Wellington
Students at Wellington’s elementary schools are getting a unique lesson in architecture by brainstorming alongside a professional designer to revamp the playground at Tiger Shark Cove Park. A designer from Leathers & Associates is meeting with kindergarten through fifth grade classes through the beginning of January with the goal of incorporating their ideas into a custom design.
“When it comes to playgrounds, our children are the real experts,” Wellington Manager Paul Schofield said. “They have come up with creative and exciting ideas, and we can’t wait to reveal the final design.”
Wellington is planning a Celebration Day at Tiger Shark Cove Park on Saturday, January 21, 2012 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm where the design team will unveil the design for the revamped playground. At the event, residents will have an opportunity to sign up to volunteer to help rebuild the playground. The rebuild is slated for Wednesday, March 21 through Sunday, March 25, 2012.
“Wellington residents have a longstanding tradition of getting involved with creating our parks, and we want to continue that at Tiger Shark Cove Park,” Schofield said.
Volunteers built the original Tiger Shark Cove Park playground 12 years ago. Similarly, in January 2010, more than 200 volunteers pitched in to build the popular Scott’s Place barrier-free playground on Forest Hill Boulevard adjacent to City Hall.
Tiger Shark Cove Park is located at 13800 Greenbriar Boulevard. For more information about the community build project, contact Kim Henghold, Volunteer Coordinator, at (561) 791-4137.
