First African American Team to Win High School Polo Title to Visit Wellington City Hall
Created in 1994, Work to Ride is a non-profit organization that brings disadvantaged youth ages 7 to 19 into the equestrian world. The team made history in 1999 for being the only African American polo team. Work to Ride graduates receive help with college enrollment and many return to mentor new participants. The program has been featured by Sports Illustrated, HBO and CNN Money Magazine.
Sunny Hale has been a professional polo player, horse trainer and breeder for 19 years and has attained the highest polo rating ever given to a woman – 5 goals. She is the seven time winner of “Woman Polo Player of the Year” and was the first professional woman polo player to play on a winning U.S. Open Team, polo’s equivalent to the World Series.
